Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Hyperhidrosis Treatment

BOTOX® is an effective way to treat excessive sweating and is the only prescription medicine approved by Health Canada for the treatment of excessive sweating under the arms. It works by blocking the signal from the nerve to the sweat glands. Since the overactive nerve stops stimulating the sweat gland, the sweating stops. Plus, it only works in the injected area so sweat glands in other parts of the body function normally, leaving no risk of getting overheated. Areas such as the head, underarms, and feet are commonly treated.

Hyperhidrosis TreatmentThe procedure involves injecting a small amount of the drug intradermally to the affected area using a very fine needle. There is minimal discomfort since the needle is placed just under the skin. If necessary, Dr. Lazaric can use a local anesthetic cream if you are concerned about needles.

A significant decrease in sweating in the treated areas will be noticed within a week of treatment and the results last for several months. After that, your excessive sweating will slowly return.

Hyperhidrosis is diagnosed by your doctor after conducting a full medical history and a physical exam. Tests may be required to rule out medical conditions. Talk to your doctor about how to manage your symptoms.
